Happy Re-Month Everyone!
Yes, January is the month we re-visit many of the things we do every day in order to re-fresh our memories. We have re-viewed , re-visioned, re-started, re-vamped, and re-modeled what we do in the Upper Unit and in our homeroom. By doing this many of us feel re-vitilized and re-invigorated.
This being said I am reminded once again how great your kids are!
The Exploration unit ended last week with the final presentations being presented. The kids did an outstanding job on all aspects of the project. Each group created an Explorer Notebook, a keynote presentation and an oral presentation that required them to synthesize the material they learned and present it in a new way. Some of the kids found this very difficult, but they worked hard to make it happen. Despite technological frustrations, the presentations were well practiced and informative. The Explorer Notebooks are on display in our classroom for those of you who would like to see them.

FRIDAY AFTERNOONS:
The Friday afternoon ski program is in full swing and with it comes new responsibilities. By now, many of the Upper Unit students are packing their own ski bags. They like the security of knowing that they have everything they need to stay warm and safe on the mountain because they packed it. Please check to make sure that everything is labeled. I helped a student look for his black snow pants the other day and was surprised by how many pairs had no name in them. Also a reminder to send a note in to Laurie if your child is going to stay at the mountain after the buses leave. You can write one note for the whole season if you would like.
The ski program is in full swing as are all of the regular classes and expectations for work quality and completion including homework. In the Upper Unit we see the ski program as a wonderful opportunity and privilege for our students. Because of the cut in educational time during the ski season it is really important for students to stay caught up in their work. If a student falls behind in classwork or homework completion we will ask the student to remain in school on Friday afternoon instead of going skiing in order to have time and support to get back on track. We will notify a student on Thursday if it is likely s/he will need to stay at school on Friday. The missing work would be due by 8AM Friday in order for the student to be allowed to ski.
I think that is about it. We are full swing into our unit on The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare. There will be more on this soon.
I hope to see you all tomorrow night at the ‘Meet and Greet’ for Wendy Cobb, the finalist in the principal search.
Best!
Heidi
