The invitations are out so something will be going on this week. Rumors are that the announcements will be about new tools to create interactive e-books. What I hope happens in addition to the e-book tools would be a lower [...]

Considering Twitter?

Posted by Dawn on June 8, 2011 in News & Updates |

I first signed up for a Twitter account quite some time ago, but never really embraced it. The people that I initially started to follow, didn’t seem to understand the medium either so we were like a few awkward people standing in a crowded, noisy place, unable to talk to each other. Time has passed, [...]

Posted by Dawn on June 1, 2011 in News & Updates |

If you haven’t been in a school during the last few weeks before summer vacation, it’s a bit of a scramble to make sure that all the finishing touches get put on final projects. Here’s what we are working on: Katie’s class is putting the final touches on their Eaton Trail podcast. I’m building a [...]

Fakebook Greek Style

Posted by Dawn on May 17, 2011 in News & Updates |

All of the Upper Unit students have created fake Facebook pages for their Greek god/goddess/character that they were assigned. The tool that we used is by Classtools.net and it uses a template to appear as a true Facebook page. Heidi Ringer and I had great fun coming up with ideas for favorite songs and movies. [...]

Adobe announced Project Rome yesterday. Project Rome can be run as either web based or as a desktop application for Mac or Windows. Project Rome is an “all in one content creation and publishing” tool. For a limited time, it is available as a free preview. What I find particularly interesting is the fact that [...]

Posted by Dawn on October 20, 2010 in News & Updates |

Out of curiosity, I decided to figure out what if I had purchased a $1,000 worth of Apple stock back in 2001. There was a 2:1 split in February, 2005, so as of the market close on Monday, October 18th, your stock would now be valued at $90,457. I, sadly, did not purchase Apple stock [...]

SmartTable

Posted by Dawn on October 5, 2010 in Cool Technology, News & Updates |

Thanks to a Special Ed grant, there is a SmartTable in the Warren School Lab. The SmartTable allows multiple students to work around it, much like the high-tech mission control desk in a spy movie. It comes with preinstalled activities which run using Adobe Air. There are puzzles, arithmetic problems, paint, and a few other [...]

ToonDoo – online comics

Posted by Dawn on September 27, 2010 in News & Updates |

We’ll be working on making comic strips with the Intermediate Unit over the next few weeks using ToonDoo. This will put to use the students’ creativity to work as they create a comic strip with pictures and drawings of their own. I can’t wait to see what they create!

First full week of school completed!

Posted by Dawn on September 3, 2010 in News & Updates |

Phew! It was a hot one this week, especially for lugging computers around. The kids and teachers upstairs really put their sweat glands to the test. Here’s what we worked on in the computer lab: Kindergarten – We worked on our mousing skills: keeping the mouse “in its house”, clicking and double-clicking. We will log [...]
